This happened when I was 5 years old (I’m now 76). We were camped the old fashioned way. My folks slept on cots under a tarp clipped to the drip rail on the car. I slept on the back seat of our ‘46 Chevy. No sleeping bags, just Army blankets. We cooked over an open fire. When we were fixing breakfast the next morning, a young fawn walked into our campsite. My father motioned me to be very quiet, broke off a piece of powdered sugar donut and put it in the palm of my hand, then helped hold my hand still while the fawn came over and ate the donut piece out of my hand. I still get a lilttle misty-eyed when I think of it. I could never go hunting except with a camera.
